The McKelvie Intermediate School CAT Team, with support from our Student Council and school community, completed our 6th "Wheels for Love Drive" to benefit the Easter Seals ES Riders. The purpose of ES Riders is to provide individuals with limited mobility the "freedom to move" with a Segway or Scooter.
This year we raised $7,299.08 in our fundraising effort! We had previously raised $34,079.96 which now brings our total funds raised for ES Riders over a 7 year period to $41,379.04!!!
This year's recipient was Haleigh Morgan. Haleigh is a 12 year old 6th grade student from McLaughlin Middle School in Manchester, NH. Haleigh will benefit from a Segway as she has Cerebral Palsy. She is a determined not to let anything stop her. Haleigh does her best to keep up with her friends. She ran a mile the last school year, even though she couldn't walk the next day. From time to time Haleigh uses crutches and a wheelchair for any long distance walking that may need to be done at malls, amusement parks, etc.
Haleigh has really come a long way and continues every day to strive for her independence as she sees her friends doing. She enjoys hanging out with her friends, playing saxophone, and playing with her nephew Xavian.
As our 2015 recipient, Haleigh received her Segway at an assembly at McKelvie this spring. With he extra funds raised, we were also able to present a Scooter to a veteran. We are so proud to help both of these individuals receive the "freedom to move"!
Thank you to everyone who supported our drive. Together, we made a difference!
