2013 Recipient, Josh Pajunen
In May, 2013, McKelvie Intermediate School held their fifth Wheels for Love Drive for Joshua Pajunen, an 11 year old boy from Derry, NH was born with hydrocephalus, a fluid buildup around the brain. He relies on his walker and crutches to get around. McKelvie raised enough money to purchase a Segway for him. Joshua wanted to help and ran his own fundraiser to add more funds. This allowed ES Riders to provide a hitch and trailer to transport his Segway. In May, Joshua received his Segway at a school wide assembly at McKelvie. Three past recipients, Patrick McWilliams, Crystal Courtney, and Paxton Williams, showed up on their Segways to welcome Joshua as the next ES Rider. Joshua signed, "thank you" and was able to get up on the Segway right away, and he's been on the move since.
2011 Recipients, Nurse Boo Zotto, Patrick McWilliams, and Paxton Williams
In 2011, Ross Lurgio School Nurse, Mrs. Boo Zotto and 8th Grade Student, Patrick McWilliams were selected to recieve Segways. The extra money we raised along with donations form corporate sponsors went towards a Segway for Paxton Williams, then a 2nd grade student from New Boston. Nurse Zotto, Patrick McWilliams, and Paxton Williams all are all enjoying the "freedom to move" the Segway provides. Thank you to all who helped make this possible!
2010 Wheels for Love Recipient
Marine Corporal Andrew James Johnson was our 2010 recipient. Injured in Afhanistan in 2008, Corporal Johnson spent 1 1/2 years recovering and rehabbing at Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego,CA. "I really appreciate all that your students have done to help me further "roll" on with my life. Your generosity and willingness to give back to others are what makes me proud to have fought for this country."
2009 Wheels for Love Recipients
Collin Laflamme and Jenny Carignan thank those who supported the 2009 Wheels for Love Drive. They now have more "freedom to move" with their Segways. Collin enjoys fishing, hiking, and going on walks with his family with his Segway. After receiving her Segway, some ways Jenny used it were taking part in baseball games and "marching" on the field of Memorial High School with her band. We're happy Collin and Jenny have benefited from the "freedom to move" the Segways provide!
2008 Wheels for Love Recipients
McKelvie's first "Wheels for Love Drive" helped Sam Caswell and Crystal Courtney gain more "freedom to move". Sam and Crystal were in sixth grade here at McKelvie when they got their Segways. They were able to use their Segways during their time at Ross Lurgio Middle School and Bedford High School, and the Segway has had a big impact on their lives.
2013 Wheels for Love Recipient, Camp Allen
On July 11, 2013, two scooters were presented to Camp Allen in Bedford. One of the scooters was sponsored by McKelvie Intermediate School as a result of our 2013 Wheels for Love fundraising drive. We had raised enough funds for Joshua's Segway, AND this scooter!
