Commitments to Easter Seals

Easter Seals Benefits from Third Alarm Bar Golf Scramble!

The Easter Seals Rehabilitation Center received an amazing gift from the Third Alarm  Bar Benefit Golf Scramble.   A check for $7,000 was presented to the Center by co-chairs Tom Vapner, Tom Dorsch and Rick Breiding.  These funds will be used to promote the use of assistive technology in therapy and beyond.

What started as a small idea quickly grew into a sold out scramble that featured 135 players, and had several participants from Kingwood, WV.  The scramble was held at the Fairway River Links on May 19 and the fun continued at a post-event steak fry.  Organizers stressed the success of the benefit was rooted in the generosity of the participants and all supporters.  Major sponsors included: Liberty Auto, Breiding Insurance and Financial Services, Matt Hamm with Ziegler Tires, and Ron Zavolta.

Vapner, Dorsch and Breiding had an opportunity to visit Easter Seals and learn more about the use of assistive technology, focusing on the iPad.  During their visit, they had an opportunity to meet Kelli Shallcross, a speech therapist, and Melissa Rulong, a client who has made outstanding progress in her ability to communicate through the use of an iPad.  Rulong demonstrated how she uses the iPad to make choices and interact more fully with her family and in the community. 

“It makes us feel so good to know we are in a position to improve the lives of kids who need help,” said Vapner.   “We look forward to continuing our relationship with Easter Seals and helping them provide the best in technology and equipment for the kids.”

“We are so fortunate to be the charity of choice for this yearly event,” said Jess Puglisi-Sanders, community relations director for Easter Seals.  “These funds will allow us to create solutions that change lives for so many of our clients with communicative delays and disorders.  This is an incredible demonstration of the giving nature found in the Ohio Valley and we are grateful.”
