Mews Tavern Gear ‘N’ Beer 5K Races Through Wakefield to Raise Over $32,000 for Easter Seals Rhode Island

The 13th Annual Mews Tavern Gear ‘N’ Beer 5K Road Race raised over $32,000 for Easter Seals RI. The race, held on November 18th, had over 1,500 participants racing through the streets of Wakefield, and nearly 500 supporters cheering them on! Following the race everyone gathered for a gigantic post-race celebration, hosted by Mews Tavern, for the racers complete with BBQ buffet, six different microbrews and raffles.

Congratulations to first place runner William Sanders (14:53), second place Mike Fisher (14:56), and third place Matt Pelletier (15:15), as well as the top three female runners Steph Riley (16:39), Claudia Camargo (18:38), and Brittany Pelsue (19:08).

The Gear ‘N’ Beer 5K supports Easter Seals RI Early Intervention and Pediatric Outpatient programs. Early Intervention Services provide children birth to age three with a comprehensive evaluation to detective early developmental delays in learning, language, motor and social skills, as well as education and therapy services to help them reach their full potential at an early age. The Pediatric Outpatient Program provides physical, occupational and speech therapy to children and young adults from birth to twenty-one-years-old in the Washington County area and surrounding towns. The Pediatric Outpatient Program is crucial because it helps clients with a variety of needs receive the therapy required to allow them to lead a more independent life.

“We are very fortunate to have the Mews Tavern support our programs and be a true community partner,” says Judy Fortier, Easter Seals RI Director of Development. “The Gear ‘N’ Beer 5K allows Easter Seals to provide services for children and young adults with disabilities, to allow them to become more independent, adjust to change, develop new skills and play with their peers.”

Easter Seals Rhode Island provides exceptional services to ensure that children and young adults with disabilities or special needs and their families have an equal opportunity to live, learn, work and play in their communities. Last year, Easter Seals Rhode Island served over 400 children through Early Intervention Services and the Pediatric Outpatient Program.
