Mews Tavern Serves More than Beer and Great Food
Contributes .25 Million Dollars to Local Charities

The 12th Annual Mews Tavern Gear ‘N’ Beer 5K Road Race raised over $28,000 for Easter Seals RI. The race, held on November 20th, had over 1,800 participants racing through the streets of Wakefield and included a post-race celebration for the racers complete with BBQ buffet, six different microbrews and raffles, hosted by Mews Tavern.

Following the race Dan Rubino, Mews Tavern Vice President, presented a check to Easter Seals RI in support of Easter Seals RI Pediatric Outpatient Program, which opened in October 2011, and provides physical therapy to children and young adults ages three to twenty-one in the Washington County area and surrounding towns. The Pediatric Outpatient Program is crucial because it helps clients with a variety of needs receive the therapy required to allow them to reach their full potential. For children and young adults with disabilities, therapy allows them to become more independent, adjust to change, develop new skills, and play with their peers.

“We are very fortunate to have the Mews Tavern support our programs and be a true community partner,” says Judy Fortier, Easter Seals RI Director of Development. “We look forward to working with Dan and his team again for the 2012 road race and we are grateful for the opportunity to raise awareness for the programs we provide through this event.”

The contribution to Easter Seals RI represents a small portion of the money raised by Mews Tavern over the last 20 years. Since the early ‘90s, the Mews has donated more than $225,000 to local non-profits and this does not include the thousands donated in raffle items and in-kind support.

“We are proud to support the surrounding community where we have built our business over the last 20 years,” said Dan Rubino, Vice President, Mews Tavern. “Working with an organization like Easter Seals RI has been inspiring and we are proud to support the work they do to provide hope and independence for children with special needs and disabilities. We look forward to joining forces with Easter Seals RI once again, in 2012”
