Senior Farmers’ Market Program

This will be the third growing season that Easter Seals will provide the Senior Farmers' Market Program program.

ELIGIBILITY AND ENROLLMENT – You are eligible for the program if you are 60 years of age or older; live in Columbiana or Mahoning Counties; and have a combined household income of 185% or less of the federal poverty income level.  All eligible seniors can apply for coupons.  Applications will be provided to seniors by calling our offices or visiting our congregate sites.  Seniors can apply anytime on or after April 1st .  Coupons are limited to our funding and are distributed based on completed/correct applications on a first come – first serve basis.

HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS – Each eligible senior who receives coupons will get ten (10) $5.00 coupons for a total of $50.00 to use between June and October at an approved farm market.  A listing of the farms we are contracted with will be given with each set of coupons.  You can also look for the Senior Farmers' Market Program Poster at the participating farms.  Coupons may not be used to buy produce that a farmer has purchased from a wholesaler or non-local farmer.  Coupons may not be used to purchase flowers, plants, crafts, eggs, nuts, rice, popcorn, dried produce, dried herbs, baked goods, jams, apple butter, cider or syrup.  Also, produce that is locally grown must be purchased.  Limes, grapefruits, pineapples, oranges, lemons for example are not grown in our region so they are not available for purchase with the coupons.  A list of approved produce and herbs will be sent with the coupons as well.  If a senior is homebound and receives the coupons, a proxy can be designated on the application and can shop for the senior. We look forward to partnering again with our local farmers.  This program is a win/win for the farmers in Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Kentucky and the seniors in Columbiana and Mahoning Counties.  Please call our office (330-743-1168) with any other questions as we roll out the Senior Farmers' Market Program for 2014.
