Register to Vote in Massachusetts

Why Vote?
Elected officials listen and respond to the concerns of their voting constituents when they enact legislation, direct policy and appropriate funds.  As a result, you can have a significant impact on the outcome of issues that are important to you and to people with disabilities.

When is the Deadline to Register to Vote?

  • 20 days before all primaries and elections, and/or
  • 10 days before a special town meeting.

How Do I get a Voter Registration Form?
Go to Elections Division web site and click on the Voter Registration Form Request button, or
Call 1-800-462-8683 and request a Voter Registration Form, or
Call or visit your town clerk’s office, city election office or any state agency and request a Voter Registration Form.
Send the completed Voter Registration Form to your town clerk’s office or city election office.

Where Do I Vote?
Go to the Secretary of Commonwealth's Web site to find your polling station.
Call 1-800-392-6090 and request your poll location, or
Call or visit your town clerk’s office or city election office and request your poll location.
Federal Law requires that all polling places be accessible.

May I Vote at Home?
You may vote at home if your doctor provides a letter indicating that you are permanently unable to cast your ballot at the polling place due to physical disability.
File your doctor’s letter with your town clerk’s office or city election office.
Your local election officials will automatically mail you an application for an absentee ballot for all elections during the calendar year.
Sign the application and return it to your local election officials.
