Providing Services for People with Disabilities and Their Families

Children and adults with disabilities and special needs find highest-quality services designed to meet their individual needs when they come to Easter Seals. Teams of therapists, teachers and other health professionals help each person overcome obstacles to independence and reach his or her personal goals. Easter Seals also includes families as active members of any therapy program, and offers the support families need.

Vocational Services
These programs include sheltered employment, transition services, work adjustment and work evaluation. Sheltered employment is designed to provide long-term employment in a structured environment for those individuals who need maximum supervision to be productive. Employees are paid commensurate wages and receive benefits. Work adjustment is a time limited work skills training and may be facility based (workshop) or community based. Transition services refers to a array of specialty services that may be provided to individuals based on consumer choice and need. Examples of other training might include drivers education, laundry services, customer service training and mobility skills training. These programs are funded through a contract with the Division of Rehabilitation Services.

Community Living Support (CLS)

This program provides attendant care and companion services to adults with physical disabilities. Services are based on individual needs and are flexible, as those needs change. This program enables individuals to live in their own apartments/houses or with a roommate and is designed to prevent unnecessary institutionalization. The program is funded through the Department of Medical Assistance Independent Care Medicaid Waiver Program.

Adult Day Programs: Anticipating the Needs of Adults with Disabilities and Older Adults
Extending Easter Seals' expertise, Easter Seals adult day services meet daytime needs of adults with disabilities and older adults while promoting their dignity and independence. Currently, the Adult Day programs are located in Albany, Americus, Cordele, Tifton, and Vienna. Easter Seals partners with families to ensure a continuation of their high-standards of care.

Residential Services
This program provides supervised living experiences for adults with mental retardation. Easter Seals operates group homes in Vienna, Unadilla, Tifton, Pelham, Camilla, Jesup and Cordele and accessible apartments in Ashburn, Cairo, Moultrie, Waycross and Valdosta. The group homes are staffed around the clock while apartment residents receive staff support, as individual needs dictate. Residents must come from the Regional waiting list. Easter Seals staff will provide assistance with the application process to be placed on the Regional waiting list.

Respite Care/Family Support
Respite is time limited, temporary relief provided to the primary caregiver of individuals with a disability. Respite allows families, who may otherwise be home bound, the opportunity to enjoy a well deserved break. This service is designed to relieve families/caregivers of the physical or emotional stress associated with caring for an individual with disabilities.

Family Support is a broad based category that serves children and adults, ages 3 and up, who have mental retardation/developmental disabilities and autism. The goal of family support is to keep families together, until the individual with a disability chooses to live independently. Family support is designed to improve the quality of supports to families, while minimizing the need and cost of out of home placements. Respite/Family Support services are available to residents in 54 counties in Southern Georgia.
