Residential Services

Residential Services are provided to assist persons with disabilities to live independently in the community. Easter Seals provides qualified, trained staff, that are selected based upon the needs and desires of the person recieving services. Currently Easter Seals Southern Georgia operates group homes and apartments in twelve locations. Support staff is available to assist residents twenty-four hours a day and seven days a week.

Who is Eligible for Residential Services?

Persons desiring admission to one of the residential program options offered by Easter Seals of Southern Georgia must meet eligibility criteria established by the funding source and regulatory agencies. All persons residing in a HUD (US Department of Housing and Urban Development) facility must be over age 18. All residents must have a documented diagnosis of Mental Retardation, meet ICF-MR (Intermediate Care Facility for the Mentally Retarded) eligibility criteria and must have a Medicaid waiver. Easter Seals will assist in the procedure for placement on the regional planning list in order to obtain a waiver. Residents are selected though a CET process considering most in-need and most compatible per location.

What does the Residential Program Entail?

Easter Seals staff assists residents and provides opportunities for personal growth and skill development in the areas of activities of daily living such as: bathing, grooming, cooking, housekeeping, personal care, and assistance in community activities, and learning social skills. The hours of service are based on the individual’s needs and will be provided with a minimum of interference with their daily life. Individual’s interests and needs are considered when activities are planned and the residents enjoy both “family-style” outings and those of a more individual nature. Families are actively involved with their loved ones and friends visit frequently. Birthdays and holidays are encouraged to be celebrated with family and friends.
