Our Approach To Rehabilitation and Support
Easter Seals Outpatient Medical Services takes a “Creating solutions, changing lives” approach. A team of licensed, registered healthcare professionals work together to assess and meet the physical and educational needs of each individual with the goal of rehabilitating the whole person. Then, physicians recommend the specialized services of physical or occupational therapy.  A full array of services can be specifically designed to accommodate individual needs through identification, education and preventive treatment.Coordination of your services will be handled by a member of your team.

Physical Therapy
The goals of our physical therapy professionals are to help the individual restore function, reduce pain, and improve endurance for physical activity by increasing muscle strength, coordination and balance.  Each patient is evaluated so that specific therapy goals may be formulated. A program of treatment and training is initiated to achieve the patient’s goals and maximum independence. Treatment may include:  Therapeutic exercise for stretching, strengthening, joint mobilization, relaxation, facilitation and/or conditioning, functional mobility training, utilizing adaptive equipment, hydrotherapy and other therapeutic modalities, brace and prosthetic clinic, back education, including proper lifting techniques.

Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapists help individuals improve functional skills in performing daily activities at home and work.  An assessment is made to determine what skills are needed to help the patient lead a more independent life.
Treatment may include:  Activities of daily living, including self-care, feeding and homemaking skills, upper extremity dysfunction, including hand injuries and carpal tunnel syndrome, recommendations for adaptive equipment and custom splinting, and evaluation for developmental delays in children and sensory motor treatment.

Speech & Language Pathology
Improving communication skills of children and adults is the primary concern of speech pathology. Professionals evaluate and treat speech, language and cognitive deficits in order to achieve maximum communication ability.  Therapists provide services in the areas of aphasia, articulation, stuttering, language delays, dysphagia (swallowing), feeding, traumatic brain injury and voice for clients of all ages.

Audiology
An audiologist is a professional with specialized training in the prevention, identification, assessment and treatment of hearing disorders. Audiologists hold a Master’s or Doctoral degree from an accredited university graduate program. Their academic and clinical training provides the foundation for patient management from birth through adulthood. Audiologists determine appropriate patient treatment of hearing and balance problems by combining a complete history with a variety of specialized auditory and vestibular assessments.
Our audiologist uses state-of-the-art equipment to obtain accurate results about your hearing loss.  These tests are typically conducted in our sound-treated room with calibrated equipment.  Based upon the diagnosis, the audiologist will present a variety of treatment options to patients with hearing impairment and balance problems as well as the benefits of the use of hearing aids and the latest hearing aid technology.
