STATE TASK FORCE

The State of Idaho does not have an active task force on autism at this time.

STATE INSURANCE COVERAGE

The State of Idaho does not currently have a specific health insurance mandate for autism.

MEDICAID

Idaho Home and Community-Based Services Waiver: ID Developmental Disabilities
This waiver, implemented on October 1, 2007, provides services including residential habilitation, respite, supported employment, specialized medical equipment and supplies, community support, a support broker, adult day care, behavior consultation and crisis management, environmental accessibility adaptation, home delivered meals, PERS, skilled nursing, and transportation for individuals ages 18 and up with autism, developmental disabilities, and mental retardation. This waiver expired on September 30, 2012.

Idaho Home and Community-Based Services Waiver: ID Children's Developmental Disabilities
This waiver, implemented on July 1, 2011, provides habilitative supports, respite, community support services, financial management services, support broker services, crisis intervention family and interdisciplinary training, habilitative intervention, and therapeutic consultations for individuals with autism, mental retardation, and developmental disabilities, up until age 17. This waiver expires June 20, 2014.

Idaho Home and Community-Based Services Waiver: ID Act Early
This waiver, implemented on July 1, 2011, provides respite, crisis intervention, family and interdisciplinary training, habilitative intervention, habilitative supports, and therapeutic consultation for individuals with autism, mental retardation, and developmental disabilities, ages 3-6. This waiver expires on June 30, 2014.

EDUCATION

In order qualify for special education in Idaho, students with autism must be evaluated and diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder by a licensed mental health professional or by a school psychologist and speech pathologist. A student with autism must also exhibit a developmental disability that adversely affects his/her educational performance and demonstrate a need for special education. (Idaho Special Education Manual, Idaho State Department of Education, Division of Student Achievement and Accountability, p.108)

STATE LEGISLATIVE CALENDAR

The State ofIdaho Legislaturemeets in Regular Session annually on the second Monday in January. The 2012 Regular Session convened on January 9, 2012 and adjourned on March 29, 2012. The 2013 Regular Session will convene on January 14, 2013 and is expected to adjourn mid-March of 2013.
