FooFood Lion Customers Raise $3.7 Million During Four-Week 2013 Easter Seals Campaign

More Than 100,000 Children and Adults With Disabilities Benefit from Campaign

(Chicago, March 27, 2013) -- Food Lion customers raised $3.7 million during its four-week Shop&Care campaign. The money will be used to help more than 100,000 children and adults with disabilities throughout 11 Easter Seals affiliates in the Southeast.

“We appreciate our customers helping us raise more than $3 million to make an impact in the lives of adults and children who live with disabilities,” said Sherrii Webb, manager of community relations for Food Lion. “Because of our customers’ selfless giving, they can now receive support as they deal with developmental or physical disabilities.”

The four-week program, which began Feb. 13 and closed March 12, offered customers the opportunity to purchase more than 200 specially-marked Shop&Care products in stores. Customers also made donations in $1 increments at checkout. In addition, associates hosted various community events.

“Thank you to Food Lion, their customers and the manufacturing community for helping Easter Seals create solutions for children and adults with disabilities,” said James E. Williams, Jr., president and chief executive officer, Easter Seals. “We are proud to have Food Lion as part of the Easter Seals family. Our 22 year partnership has been an integral factor to the growth of services provided by Easter Seals in local communities.”

Since Food Lion first initiated the Shop&Care program in 1991, the company has raised more than $36 million for Easter Seals. For more than 90 years, Easter Seals has been offering help and hope to children and adults living with disabilities and to the families who love them.
