State College Easterseals Playground

“Paving The Way So All Can Play”

Girl with walker Girl with walker

Easterseals Child Development Center (ESCDC) is trying to raise money to create an all-inclusive playground at their State College facility. The playground area is the ONLY space at Easterseals that is not accessible to children of all physical abilities and all ages. The wood mulch prohibits wheelchairs/walkers and infants/toddlers from enjoying the over 3,000 square feet of play space provided.

Picture this with me....I drop my fully-able daughter off every morning and the kiddos are running and playing (as long as the "real feel" is above 32...they are out there). I am greeted by the kiddos who require various support equipment right inside the play area. "Good Morning, Olivia's mom", they say to me. These sweethearts are limited where they can safely go because of the mulch, and are left to watch on the sidelines as the other kids use the entire space. This doesn't sit right with me. I want to see all of the kids....enjoying all of the space.

Easterseals Child Development Center has already began working with surfacing companies to obtain the best price for poured rubber surfacing. An excavating team has already graciously agreed to donate their time and labor to excavate and prepare the ground for the rubber surface. All we need now is the poured in rubber surface! This will not only make the playground more inclusive but also more safe for all students. Our goal is to reach $45,000.00 to cover the cost of the surfacing.
